MassFiscal Demands Full Disclosure of Attorney General Campbell’s Travel Expenses

As public concern grows over Attorney General Andrea Campbell’s taxpayer-funded travel, the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance is calling for immediate transparency and a full accounting of the costs incurred by her office during Fiscal Year 2025.

Public records obtained by the Boston Herald show that the Attorney General’s office charged nearly $300,000 on state-issued credit cards, including luxury travel in France, a trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands, thousands spent on D.C. hotels, and even a charge at Disney World. These records, however, only reflect charges placed on state credit cards, leaving many potential expenses and the total costs of these trips unknown to the taxpayers footing the bill.

“Taxpayers deserve a comprehensive report on what they’re being asked to pay for. These piecemeal credit card charges do not tell the whole story. Until we see the complete picture, we have no idea how much these junkets are truly costing the people of Massachusetts,” said Paul Diego Craney, Executive Director for the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance.

At the same time these charges have come to light, the Attorney General’s office continues to ignore their duty to enforce the voter-approved audit of the legislature, which passed with overwhelming public support last November. Meanwhile, her office received a 12% budget increase this year from the legislature.

“There is absolutely no regard for the taxpayers, as they are being asked to provide a steady cash flow to a government that won’t disclose how public money is being spent, while ignoring the will of the people that elected them. That is not how good governance works. If the Attorney General has the bandwidth to travel to France, the Caribbean, Disney World and to sue the federal government 29 times in six months, she can find the time to respect the law passed by her own constituents. Instead she’s fulfilling her own political agenda at the expense of the taxpayers,” said Craney.

MassFiscal is calling on AG Campbell to release the full, itemized costs of her travel, including trips to France, St. Thomas, Washington, D.C., and elsewhere, to publicly commit to regular reporting of future travel-related expenditures, and to immediately take action to enforce the audit the legislature law.
