MassFiscal calls on Governor Healey to restore bi-weekly shelter reporting, urges Legislature to make disclosure permanent

The Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance today responded to the latest biweekly emergency shelter report released by the Executive Office for Administration and Finance and the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities.

The Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance today sharply criticized Governor Maura Healey for continuing to funnel taxpayer money into a broken and unsustainable emergency shelter system, while not taking action on the ongoing public defender crisis that’s allowing potentially violent offenders to walk free.

In response to the release of the most recent Bi-Weekly Emergency Shelter Report, the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance is calling for a renewed urgency for lawmakers on Beacon Hill to reprioritize the failed shelter program under Governor Maura Healey.

The Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance issued the following statement today after the Massachusetts House of Representatives and State Senate passed a supplemental spending bill redirecting nearly half a billion dollars to the continued funding of the migrant crisis in Massachusetts without tackling any of the catalyst policies of the crisis.

Following the release of the Massachusetts House of Representatives proposal to make “reforms” to the emergency shelter program that is drawing so many migrants up from the open southern border to Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance noted that their plan is likely to be ineffective in solving the migrant crisis currently facing the Commonwealth.
