MassFiscal Blasts the Governor’s Backhanded Attempt
The Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance blasted Governor Maura Healey for attempting to add a very drastic policy change into the upcoming supplemental budget. With the recess of the legislature at the end of July, the House and Senate are now only meeting in informal sessions that should only be used to pass housekeeping items and other noncontroversial pieces of legislation. The Governor’s inclusion of controversial energy policies is patently against the spirit of such “informal” meetings of the legislature.
“What could Governor Healey be thinking by adding policies, which couldn’t make it over the finish line before the close of the two-year legislative, into a supplemental budget bill now? This is no way to govern. The people of Massachusetts deserve a process that is transparent and abided by, even when it’s inconvenient for the Governor,” stated Paul Diego Craney, spokesperson for Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance.
“The Governor is justifying the ends by all means necessary and that is a really poor way to run a state. If this is accepted, it will become normalized, and ultimately, the legislative process will become an even further embarrassment. Lawmakers need to keep the Governor in check and not let this abuse in power occur,” concluded Craney.
