The Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance is pleased to share the landslide victory of Yes on 1.
By voting “Yes” on Question 1, voters have shown their desire for change and to open up the process on Beacon Hill, ensure that taxpayer funds are managed responsibly, and that legislative financial activities are subject to the same oversight as other government agencies. You can view live results here.
Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance was an early supporter, offering financial assistance to collect signatures in 2023 and 2024, offering testimony at the State House before the Joint Committee on Initiative Petitions which also appeared in voter guide red book, doing countless media interviews in support, communicating with our members to vote Yes on 1, and sponsoring a paid get out the vote radio campaign urging voters to vote Yes on 1. The radio campaign aired on stations including WRKO, WBZ, Lowell Talk 1200, Worcester WTAG, Cape WXTK, Western MA WHYN, Southshore WTAD, and Newsradio Rhode Island.
Overall, Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance was the heaviest spender in support of Yes 1 outside of the ballot question committee this cycle. Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance would like to thank its members for being supportive of this effort, supporting us with words of encouragement, and financial support. Over the last two years, it took a lot of our time, energy, and resources.
The legislative process at the State House is completely broken and the victory shows that the people of Massachusetts want more transparency and accountability from their leaders in state government. These results are a repudiation of what is going on at the State House. Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance is pleased to have played a significant role in helping the State Auditor bring this measure before the voters and achieving another victory for the taxpayers. From the beginning, Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance saw the potential of this effort and teamed up with the State Auditor to make it a reality, even when some of the most powerful voices in the State House were publicly opposing. At every hurdle, Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance was there to offer support and help advance this effort to the next phase. The State Auditor and the ballot question committee were the engine and Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance was the gasoline that helped get this effort over the finish line.
We hope legislative leaders will accept the results of the election and obey the will of the voters. If they act as election deniers and don’t comply, Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance will continue to do whatever is necessary to ensure the will of the voters are accepted.
The Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance is a 501(c)4 non-profit organization and is no stranger to ballot questions. In 2020, Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance was successful in defeating Ranked Choice Voting by a margin of 55% to 45%.
