Latest Action is a Delay Tactic – Attorney General Needs to Defend the Voter Approved Law
The Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance slammed Senate President Karen Spilka and her Senate panel, which only consists of Democratic state senators, for trying to further delay the voter approved audit the legislature law. Their latest attempt to undermine the audit the legislature law came out today, when they sent a letter to the State Auditor, agreeing to meet at the end of the month to discuss their concerns with complying with the voter approved law. Instead of simply complying with the law, they are throwing up new hurdles and delay tactics.
“Lawmakers are not in a position to debate the merits of the law, voters already did that for them. They simply need to comply with the law as the voters instructed,” stated Paul D. Craney, spokesperson for Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance.
“Senate President Karen Spilka has set up a special committee of only Democratic senators to try to undermine the will of the voters. Their latest attempt is a clear delay tactic. They should be complying with the law, not stalling. Further meetings at the end of the month to discuss their concerns with compliance are only designed to delay the implementation of the law,” said Craney.
“These concerns can be dealt with in court and Attorney General Andrea Campbell has a responsibility to defend the voter approved law now. The Attorney General cannot sit by any longer, she needs to side with the people of Massachusetts as lawmakers are now officially not in compliance,” concluded Craney.
