MassFiscal Applauds Senate Republicans Pro-Transparency Procedural Moves

Senate Leadership Try to Advance Opaque Climate Bill Ahead of PPP Tax Fix

The Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance made the following statement today in response to the Senate Republicans “laying on the table” the climate bill, which was scheduled for a vote today after finally being released to the public at 10pm last night. Senate leadership attempted to take up the controversial and opaque climate bill before any debate on the important and extremely time sensitive PPP tax fix. This procedural maneuver, which each senator is free to use, shuts down the Senate’s session for the day.

“Such bold moves are needed and appropriate. The controversial and opaque climate bill was released to the public around 10pm last night and the senate leadership tried to ram it through before any effort to take up the important PPP tax fix. At some point, the opaque maneuvering has to come to an end and we hope today’s actions serve as a wake-up call to leadership in the legislature,” stated Paul Diego Craney, spokesperson of Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance.

“The Senate Republicans are right to use every available resource to sound the alarm. Opaque and controversial climate legislation should never have been put ahead of fixing a time sensitive issue like the PPP tax fix. Senate leadership have no one to blame but themselves,” stated Paul Diego Craney, spokesperson of Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance.
