Election and Voter Integrity Not a Priority for MA Delegation
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act passed the U.S. House in a bipartisan 221-198 vote Wednesday night, yet all the Massachusetts House members in Congress voted against it. The SAVE Act would further secure elections and ensure more integrity in the voting process by requiring a U.S. citizenship identification when voting and requiring states to remove non-citizens from the voter rolls. The SAVE Act received bi-partisan support, including from New England’s Democratic Congressman Jared Golden of Maine. The SAVE Act was passed in response to President Joe Biden’s reckless and irresponsible border policy which has resulted in approximately 4.6 million migrants crossing into the United States. States like Massachusetts that have incentivized the incoming migrants with laws like the Right to Shelter, generous welfare benefits, non-profit and legal benefits, taxpayer funded community college, and driver’s licenses resulted in a higher proportion of these migrants settling within our state borders. In 2022, when former Governor Charlie Baker vetoed the driver’s license for illegal immigrants bill, he warned it, “significantly increases the risk that noncitizens will be registered to vote.” The SAVE Act would help prevent former Governor Baker’s warning from coming true.
“There is no justifiable reason to oppose requiring only U.S. citizens the ability to vote in elections and only U.S. citizens should be registered to vote. Unfortunately, every Massachusetts House member in Congress did just that. They let ideology driven Democratic primary politics get in the way of common sense and the good of the country. They listened to the small fraction on the far left to guide their vote, instead of the vast majority of voters who want common sense solutions. While the nation is dealing with the fallout from President Biden’s open border policy, the Massachusetts delegation cannot be counted on to vote the right way for its citizens and secure elections. The only reason someone could possibly oppose such basic and common-sense reforms is that they don’t care about securing our elections and they don’t value the weight and integrity of the votes cast by the citizens they represent,” stated Paul Diego Craney, spokesman for the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance.
