Statement on Bill to Remove Party Representation from Campaign Finance Process

The Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance released the following statement in response to the legislature’s proposal to remove the state political party chairman from campaign finance process.

“This is a complete abomination to campaign finance law and a blatant attempt to rig the system to benefit Beacon Hill politicians, plain and simple. It will result in all decisions on the future of campaign finance in our state being decided only by Democratic Party politicians,” said Paul D. Craney, a spokesman for the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance.

“This is as corrupt as the Speaker running on term limits only to get rid of them when it would apply to him. In a state dominated by one party rule, this legislation would creates the likely possibility that the Director of the Office of Campaign and Political Finance will be picked solely by the majority party. It’s time for anyone at the State House who isn’t completely corrupt to speak up and loudly say NO.”
